SP AF10-24mm F/3.5-4.5 Di II Features
Di II
Portrait macro shot Lenses are designed for exclusive use on digital cameras with smaller-size imagers and inherit all of the benefits of our Di products. These lenses are not designed for conventional cameras and digital cameras with image sensors larger than 24mm x 16mm.
Super Performance (SP) for Discriminating Shooters
Tamron SP (Super Performance) series is a line of ultra-high-performance lenses designed and manufactured to the exacting specifications demanded by professionals and others who require the highest possible image quality. In creating SP lenses Tamron’s optical designers put their foremost priority on achieving superior performance parameters—they are all designed to a higher standard with little regard for cost constraints. As a result, Tamron lenses bearing the SP designation feature impressive and innovative designs that have established an enviable reputation for excellence among those knowledgeable photographers that demand the very best.
Internal Focus (IF)
Internal focusing (IF) provides numerous practical benefits to photographers including a non-rotating front filter ring that facilitates the positioning of polarizing and graduated filters, and more predictable handling because the lens length does not change during focusing. Even more important, Tamron's Internal Focusing (IF) system provides a much closer minimum focusing distance (MFD) throughout its entire focusing range. In addition, IF improves optical performance by minimizing illumination loss at the corners of the image field, and helps to suppress other aberrations that become more troublesome at different focusing positions.
Low Dispersion (LD) Glass for Greater Lens Sharpness Low Dispersion (LD)
Low dispersion (LD) glass elements in a lens help reduce chromatic aberration; the tendency of light of different colors to come to different points of focus at the image plane. Chromatic aberration reduces the sharpness of an image, but glass with an extremely lowdispersion index, has less of a tendency to separate (defract) a ray of light into a rainbow of colors. This characteristic allows the lens designer to effectively compensate for chromatic aberration at the center of the field (on axis), a particular problem at long focal lengths (the telephoto end of the zoom range), and for lateral chromatic aberration (towards the edges of the field) that often occurs at short focal lengths (the wide-angle end of the zoom range.)
Aspherical Elements (ASL) Provide the Ultimate in Image Quality and Compactness)
Tamron uses several hybrid aspherical lens elements in many lenses bearing the Aspherical designation. These innovative optics allow us to achieve the ultimate in image quality, and at the same time produce lenses that offer remarkable zoom ranges in extraordinarily compact packages. By perfecting theses cutting-edge advances for series production, Tamron has advanced the state of optical design, and virtually eliminated spherical aberration and image distortion from the high-power-zoom series.Through the effective application of Hybrid Aspherical Technology, one lens elemen tcan take the place of multiple elements without compromising performance. This is what allows us to produce remarkably compact long-range lenses that deliver a uniformly high level of image quality at all focal lengths and apertures.
Achieve the ultimate in image quality with Asperical (ASL) lenses

PROS:
-Cheap, compared to the original Canon wide-angle lenses (10-22 f/3.5-4.5 for APS-C, 16-35 f/2.8 for FFs)
-Nice focal length, 10-24mm 2.4X zoom (for wide-angles)
-Common filter size, 77mm
-Many monture options (for Canon, Nikon, Pentax...)
-Solid metallic structure, not as other lenses with plastic montures that make them feel cheap and fluffy
-Includes a Petal-type lens hood, not as many other lenses that you must get apart the lens hood (and Canon's are expensive compared to other trademarks!)
-No vignettism or chormatical aberration
-Compatible with many filters (I use the Hoya HD CPL 77mm) with no vignettism.
-Nice contrast in the pictures, great colours and nice definition.
-It's composition make's it very light!
CONS:
-Mostly made of plastic
-Variable aperture (f/3.5-4.5)
-Non professional lens
-Autofocus is a bit slow and quite noisy (do not speck for an USM L lens for this price)
In an overall construction I must say that this lens is simply awesome, if you are looking for a nice wide-angle lens (amateur or semi-pro) this is THE lens you have been looking for. Compared to the Sigma's proposals or the Tokina's, this Tamron is on the top of the third party options for wide-angles lenses. Obviously it's not a 16-35 f/2.8 L lens (1600$ more or less) construction, but it's a competitive APS-C construction in the market, for me the best! Do not hesitate on getting one, this is THE lens you have been looking for.
The only negative in my experience was that Amazon waited more than a week to ship even though the lens was in stock. I guess that's because I went for the Super Saver shipping. It still arrived before the promised end date, but it was very frustrating to watch the early estimated delivery date come and go, and still be waiting to see that it had been shipped.
I met with a Tamron rep earlier today, he said from my description of the problems with the serial number it was more than likely a "grey market" lens. I have no idea, all I know is that it stopped working and I got burned for almost $100 for something that cost more than $400.00 and didn't last 3 months.
Be careful what you buy through Amazon, if it's a direct buy then you might be ok with any problem solving, beyond that don't expect much if any help.
The image quality is VERY good though. I absolutely love it for outdoor photography! If it wasn't for the great image quality/price ratio I wouldn't give it 4 stars because the build quality is sub par for this price range.
I've used it on a crop sensor canon camera. T2i and 60D.
The best thing about this lens is the focal length. Going out to 10mm is really nice sometimes on a crop sensor and I've found it really handy lots of times. However, I think that focal length is often highly overrated. You can always work around your focal length: step back, step closer, hold the camera up in the air, etc. But if the images produced are of bad quality then what difference does the focal length matter?!
The corners on this lens look horrible. Not just the distortion which is pronounced even on a crop sensor which is fine, its 10mm after all! But the quality is bad. Fuzzy, blurry, bad color, no good!
Additionally the zoom and focus are clunky and not smooth. This lens feels somewhat cheap in the hands and its very ugly to look at.
Save your money and try the Tokina 11-16. Or something else I don't know what. But this one is not great.
Top reviews from other countries
I tried it for night sky and there are nice pics of the Milky Way. I did some photos of scenery (sunrises, lake effects) and some photos of interior and there the big wide angle sure is a great thing. Up to now I do not have to complain about anything. At the wide angle and full aperture stars in the night sky pictures are getting a little longer towards the edges. This has nothing to do with the motion of the earth but just with less sharpness at the edges. As I usually do not crop these wide angle photos this effect is not really disturbing.
